Venkaiah Naidu: From a farmer’s son to Vice-Presidential nominee

New Delhi: BJP Parliamentary Board decided today in favour of senior BJP leader and Housing and Urban Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu for NDA’s vice presidential candidate.

Famous for his rhymes and one-liners, Venkaiah Naidu was born on July 1, 1949 in Chavatapalem under Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh. He got married to M Usha on April 14, 1970. He has a son and a daughter.

Venkaiah Naidu has done BA, BL and was educated at VR High School, Nellore, VR College, Nellore, and Law College, Andhra University, Visakhapatnam.

Naidu was the National President of the Party from 2002 to 2004. He was elected to Rajya Sabha from Karnataka in 1998 and was re-elected to the house in 2004, 2010and 2016. Mr Naidu, by profession, Agriculturist, Political and Social worker has been associated with Politics from his college days in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh.

Naidu also chaired Committee on Petitions and Committee on Home Affairs of the Rajya Sabha. Mr Naidu has also been Cabinet Minister in Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s Government. Currently, he is holding charge of Urban Affairs and Information and Broadcasting.

Venkaiah Naidu will file nomination for vice-presidential polls tomorrow. Counting would also take place on August 5. Incumbent Vice-President Hamid Ansari’s term ends on August 10.
