Gorakhpur deaths: UP CM rushes 2 top ministers to hospital


Lucknow: Following the death of 60 children in 5 days at the Gorakhpur hospital, the Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath ordered an inquiry and has promised “strict action against those found responsible.”

UP CM has rushed two top ministers state health minister Siddharth Nath Singh and Medical education minister Ashutosh Tandan to visit BRD Medical College and take stock of the situation

The chief minister’s office tweeted that Yogi is keeping track of developments and has instructed both ministers to properly investigate and take strict action.

Uttar Pradesh government has said that a magisterial probe has been ordered into 30 deaths in 48 hours at the Baba Raghav Das (BRD) Medical College in Gorakhpur.

The state govt has also formed a committee to find out lapses by the administration, leading to deaths of children.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has called an emergency meeting today following the tragic deaths of over 30 infants at BDR hospital due to alleged disruption in the supply of liquid oxygen.

Health Minister Siddharth Nath Singh and Minister for Medical Education Ashutosh Tandon will visit Gorakhpur after meeting the chief minister.

Late last night, the government also denied the media reports that casualties in BRD Medical college happened due to lack of oxygen cylinders.

State Health Minister Sidharth Nath Singh said that 60 children have died since August 7 due to different diseases but not due to lack of oxygen cylinders.

Large number of policemen have been deployed outside the hospital while District Magistrate is also camping there to look into the matter.

Meanwhile UP Congress has demanded resignation of Health Minister of the state.

Terming the incident as unfortunate, Former Chief Minister and Samajwadi party leader Akhilesh Yadav held state government responsible for it. He has also accused the state government of being insensitive towards the incidents.
