New Delhi: Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar launched a stinging attack on Narendra Modi on Thursday after the prime minister said the grand old party tried to erase the contribution of B R Ambedkar in nation-building.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Aiyar said, “Ye aadmi bahut neech kisam ka aadmi hai, is mein koi sabhyata nahi hai, aur aise mauke par is kisam ki gandi rajniti karne ki kya avashyakta hai?” (This man is a low-life person, he isn’t cultured… at this moment why does he need to practise such dirty politics?).

Aiyar’s comments came in response to PM Narenda Modi launching a subtle attack on Jawaharlal Nehru an event in the national capital today.

Without naming the first Prime Minister, PM Modi said, “Baba Saheb Ambedkar’s contribution to nation building is very important, there had been attempts to undermine his role, but such attempts were unsuccessful.”

The offensive meme has brought back the memories of 2014 General Elections when former Union Minister Manishankar Aiyar, had mocked the then BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi as a “chaiwala”.

In January 2014, Aiyar while attending the AICC session, had said that Modi will never become the Prime Minister “but if he wants to distribute tea here (at AICC venue), we will find a place for him.”
