Apple rolls out iPhone 8 and X: India price, pre-order and availability

New York: The much-anticipated iPhone X, a redesigned product of glass and stainless steel with an edge-to-edge display, features wireless charging, an infrared camera and special hardware for facial recognition, which will replace the fingerprint sensor for unlocking the phone.

The home button found on previous iPhones is also gone, and users will instead tap the device to wake it up.

Tech giant Apple Inc. rolled out on Tuesday its latest versions of the iPhone with new features at a product launch event in Cupertino, California, to mark the 10th anniversary of its line of smartphone.

Tim Cook, Apple’s chief executive officer, briefly introduced the new phone, named iPhone 8, while other executives provided more details about the flagship product.

With a new camera, other new hardware components and new software to support the hardware, the iPhone 8 is claimed to be able to bring better pictures, videos and games, plus augmented reality (AR) features.

AR is a technology that superimposes a computer-generated image on a user’s view of the real world, thus providing a composite view.

In addition, in what Cook called “one more thing,” Apple also introduced the iPhone X, literally iPhone 10, a smartphone apparently slightly more distant than all previous versions from the original iPhone, which was introduced 10 years ago.

For instance, it has what is called “face ID,” for logging into the device with the user’s face and it includes wireless charging. Different from previous iPhones, the iPhone X has no home button, instead one can swipe up on the larger screen to return to the home page.

While chatting with friends on the iPhone X, users can also use animated emojis to imitate their facial expressions to make the conversation interesting.

The special event at the Steve Jobs Theater, inside the technology company’s new headquarters complex, known as Apple Park, was anticipated because an upgraded version of the iPhone was expected as the smartphone’s 10th anniversary edition.
