New Delhi: Founder and chairman of the Adani Group, Mr Gautam Adani, was awarded the with the USIBC 2022 Global Leadership Award on September 7. The businessman was awarded for his visionary leadership. The US Chamber of Commerce’s US India Business Council (USIBC) made the announcement regarding the award last week.
The Global Leadership Award recognises top corporate executives from India and the US, who showcase an active and dynamic commitment towards strengthening the US-India partnership. The award was first given in 2007 and the previous recepients include Jeff Bezos, founder, executive chairman and former president and CEO of Amazon; Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google; Adena Friedman, President and CEO of Nasdaq; Fred Smith, Founder and Chairman of FedEx Corporation; and Uday Kotak, CEO of Kotak Mahindra.
The US-India Business Council’s India Ideas Summit will be held on September 7 and will have External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and US Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm as guests of honour.
Gautam Adani also became the third richest person in the world after Tesla’s Elon Musk and Amazon’s Jeff Bezos. He has a net worth of $137.4 billion according to the Bloomberg Billionaire Index. This also makes him the first Indian business tycoon to break into the top 3 in the world, and he is also the rickest man in India and Asia. He recently met Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in New Delhi and now his company will be exporting electricity from a coal-fired plant in eastern India to Bangladesh to help them with the power shortage.
