New Delhi: Air India, the beleaguered and debt-ridden airline has finally got its buyer and it’s nothing less than ‘Ghar Wapsi’ as the netizens call it.
Tata Sons has reportedly won the bid for acquiring Air India by submitting Rs 3,000 crore bid above the minimum reserved price set by the committee, for the embattled airline.
An official announcement is yet to be made in this regard but netizens have already started reacting to the ‘sale’ of Maharaja. Many are lauding Ghar Wapsi of the airline while others are sharing memes over government’s laying off the mammoth burden on the exchequer.
It may be noted that the acquisition of Air India comes after repeated failed attempts of divestment in the government-operated airline.
The reason behind the trend Ghar Wapsi is that the airline originally belonged to the Tatas. About 67 years ago, the airline was operated by Tata Sons, which was in turn taken over by the then Indian government.
Netizens are jubilant and overjoyed over the handing over of this beleaguered govt entity to private operator like Tatas, as they hope and expect that the latter will not just make it float but also make it prosper and restore its ‘golden days’.

Tata Group founded Air India, 88 years ago and then was forced to give the control to the government after independence.
Now, Tata Sons selected as winning bidder and it returns to original Maharaja after 68 years.
