Sensex continues 5-day losing streak, tanks 536 points
Mumbai: Continuing its 5-day losing streak, Sensex on Monday tanked 536.58 points to close at 36,305.02 while Nifty slumped 168.20 points to 10,974.90.
Shares of Indian carriers SpiceJet, Jet Airways and InterGlobe Aviation, which owns IndiGo, fell as much as 4.2 per cent in Monday’s session amid a fresh rise in global crude oil price. Nifty ended below 11,000 with 4 out of every 5 stocks settling lower.
During the intra-day trade, Sensex touched a low of 36,240 and high of 26,946 points.
At the forex market, rupee weakened by 42 paise to 72 rupees 62 paise against the US dollar a short while ago.
