With eye on 2019 polls, BJP appoints campaign managers for 17 states

New Delhi: Following the dismal show in the recently concluded Assembly elections, the BJP has revamped the campaign team of several states aiming to infuse fresh energy into the party rank and file.

BJP President Amit Shah set the ball rolling for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections by appointing 17 in-charge of states.

As Uttar Pradesh sends 80 lawmakers to Lok Sabha, the party has appointed three in-charges including – Govardhan Jhadapiya, Dushyant Gautam and Narottam Mishra. A recent survey predicted that the outcome of UP results will be deciding factor for the BJP to return to power at centre.

In states like Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh where BJP gave way to resurgent Congress, the party has appointed senior leaders to contain party’s decline and swing the political tide in its favour.

Who will steer party in which state?

BJP general secretaries Bhupender Yadav and Anil Jain have been assigned Bihar and Chhattisgarh respectively, according to a statement.

Rajya Sabha member V. Muraleedharan and party secretary Deodhar Rao will be in charge of Andhra Pradesh.

The BJP has also appointed in-charges and co-incharges for several other states, including Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland, Punjab, Telangana and Sikkim among others, besides the Union Territory of Chandigarh.
Party spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi will be a co-incharge in Rajasthan.

BJP spokesperson Nalin Kohli has been assigned the task for Nagaland as well as Manipur, the party said. Bihar minister Mangal Pandey will be in-charge for Jharkhand.
