Accidental Prime Minister director held for GST fraud
Mumbai: The director of the film, The Accidental Prime Minister, Vijay Ratnakar Gutte has been arrested by the Directorate of Goods and Services Tax Intelligence (DGGSTI) in Mumbai for alleged Goods and Services Tax (GST) fraud of at least Rs 34 crore. Vijay Gutte’s father is known sugar baron in Maharashtra.
Gutte’s firm, VRG Digital Corp Pvt Ltd, allegedly accused of taking “fake invoices” involving GST of Rs 34 crore for animation and manpower services received from Horizon Outsource Solutions Pvt Ltd, a company that has come under the scanner of the government agency for GST fraud of over Rs 170 crore. Vijay Gutte has been booked under Section 132 (1)(c) of the CGST Act, which pertains to “wrongful availment” of input tax credit using bills and invoices that have been issued without any supply of goods or services.
Vijay Gutte recently came in news when he started directing a film ‘Accidental Prime Minister’ featuring Bollywood acclaimed star Anupam Kher who is playing a lead role of former prime minister Manmohan Singh. In April this year, Anupam Kher had shared first look of the film on social media. The Film is believed to be projecting Manmohan Singh in the bad light as a weak prime minister. Anupam Kher and Vijay Gutte also shared pictures of the Accidental prime minister on social media.

Film Accidental Prime Minister and its director were heavily in circulation on social media due to film’s controversial subject , Just two weeks ago Anupam kher had shared entire cast of the film on twitter and praised the hard work done by film’s director.

Vijay Gutte has so far produced three films, Emotional Attyachar, Time Bara Vait and Badmashiyaan. The Accidental Prime Minister is Gutte’s directorial debut. The film, based on Sanjaya Baru’s book, stars Anupam Kher as former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Akshaye Khanna as Singh’s media advisor, Baru. It was slated for release in December 21, this year but now future of the film seems bit uncertain unless someone else quickly take over the job and finish it.
On Thursday a Mumbai court sent Vijay Gutte to judicial custody till August 14. Gutte’s father Ratnakar Gutte Ratnakar Gutte, contested the 2014 assembly poll from Gangakhed constituency but lost.Ratnakar Gutte’s firms are also facing allegations of Rs 5,500 crore bank fraud.
