New Delhi: Legendary Indian actor and singer Dr Rajkumar who is known for his works in the Kannada film industry is deeply remembered by his fans on his birth anniversary today. The great Kannada actor was regarded as one of the most versatile actors of the Indian cinema. His real name was Singanalluru Puttaswamaiah Muthuraj and is considered a cultural icon for his works in the Kannada film industry. Dr Rajkumar was the only actor to win a National award for playback singing. His 39 films were remade 63 times in 9 languages.

Kannada Actor’s Early Life

The legendary actor was born in a Kannada family. Both his parents were theatre artists. He comfortably played the mythological roles like Kamsa, Ravana and Hiranyakashyap. He left school when he was 8 years old and joined acting. He continued acting till he turned 25. Actor Muthuraj started his acting career with his father in a drama. He was later spotted by a director who was looking for a good looking and Physically built man for his upcoming film. The director signed him in his film and given him the name Rajkumar.

Dr Rajkumar’s Singing Journey

The Kannada actor was also a trained Classical singer. He sang many songs in various films but became a full-fledged singer in 1974. Gradually his singing became popular with passing time and people started loving his voice.
