For Hansal Mehta’s series ‘Scoop’, Karishma Tanna takes home the Best Actress Award at the Busan Film Festival

New Delhi: On Sunday, at the Asia Contents Awards & Global OTT Awards 2023 in Busan, South Korea, Hansal Mehta’s Netflix series Scoop and its main actress Karishma Tanna earned top honours.

The official website states that the best TV, OTT, and internet content from Asia is honoured at the Asia Contents Awards & Global OTT Awards ceremony every year. The Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) and the Korea Radio Promotion Association are responsible for its organising.

Karishma Tanna, who attended the awards show, took home the title for best lead actress while Scoop received the award for best Asian television series.

Karishma Tanna, an actress with a wide range of skills and a track record of critical acclaim, recently won the top prize – ‘Best Lead Actress’ at the Busan International Film Festival 2023 for her performance in the Scoop series.

The fact that she is the only Indian actress nominated for an award at the festival is a major milestone in her career.

Hansal Mehta posted on his X account, “We won! Best Asian TV Series at Busan. #BIFF23.”

The director again added, “Two nominations and two awards for #ScoopOnNetflix at @busanfilmfest – Best Asian Series and Best Lead Actress for incredible @KARISHMAK_TANNA. Reposting the heartfelt happiness, he wrote, “A big, big thank you to @JignaVora5 who let us bare a piece of her heart before the world. These awards are for you.”

Karishma Tanna won an award at the Busan Film Festival, one of Asia’s most prestigious film festivals, for her depiction of Jagruti Pathak, a strong-willed journalist seeking justice in a politically unstable country.

Karishma Tanna radiated grace and national pride when walking the red carpet at the Busan Film Festival, as she wore a Saree in honour of her Indian heritage.

About the Series – Scoop

Scoop is based on Jigna Vora’s book Behind Bars in Byculla and tells the true tale of the fearless crime reporter. When Jagruti investigates the 2011 murder of a colleague journalist at the hands of the Chhota Rajan gang, she is quickly detained and wrongly implicated in the crime. It premiered in June on Netflix.
