Indian Police Force Review: The unusual design of Rohit Shetty’s OTT debut in no way indicates an improvement

Indian Police Force Review: To all appearances, the Amazon Original Series Indian Police Force is a watered-down adaptation of Shetty's Cop Universe films.

New Delhi: Director Rohit Shetty has spent years making huge police dramas, but with his latest web series Indian Police Force, he has jumped straight into over-the-top territory. Amazon Prime Video has released the series today, January 19, 2024.

This thrilling seven-part series takes place inside the Indian police force. Among the main characters are Sidharth Malhotra, Vivek Oberoi, and Shilpa Shetty.

Plot

The show’s storyline revolves around Zarar, a colossal villain who is out to hurt many Indians. However, settling their disputes with the Delhi Police is a prerequisite to implementing their objectives. In the face of threats to the state, a committed group headed by Kabir Malik protects law-abiding citizens. The series portrays a thrilling chase that encapsulates the persistent pursuit of justice and the valiant efforts put forth by all parties concerned.

Review

Rohit Shetty’s unyielding police force makes a clumsy entrance into the web series list. To all appearances, the Amazon Original Series Indian Police Force is a watered-down adaptation of Shetty’s Cop Universe films.

No effort is made to represent the overburdened security system that fights daily to maintain India’s huge national capital city secure in the series. It’s so stiff and unengaging that it never rises beyond the commonplace.

Rather than aiming for intense, hard-hitting reality, the Indian Police Force—created and directed by Rohit Shetty with screenplay and plot by Sandeep Saket and Anusha Nandkumar—makes the fatal mistake of pursuing superficial gloss and mundane pleasures. What we have seen before is only recycled in this narrative. Inadequate narrative renders the bomb subplot and the suspense it generates meaningless.

After witnessing Ajay Devgn, Ranveer Singh, and Akshay Kumar play the roles of Rohit Shetty’s policeman in the past, Sidharth Malhotra doesn’t quite fit the bill. Middling performances by Shilpa Shetty and Vivek Oberoi. However, Shilpa Shetty has a firm grasp on how to make the most of the visual and narrative potential of the hand-to-hand action scenes.

Good cinematography gets caught up in a maze of jerky visual effects and CGI occasionally. Despite these flaws, the Indian Police Force remains competitive in the crime drama genre.
