Laapataa Ladies on OTT: The Kiran Rao film which has made its entry into the Oscar’s 2025 in the Foreign Film Category at the 97th Academy awards. The film is directed by Kiran Rao and Produced by Aamir Khan.
The announcement of the film entering into the Oscar’s is made by Director Kiran Rao’s team. The film explores the issues faced by women in rural India.
Plot
The story of the film is about two brides who are switched during a train journey in 2001. A farmer is travelling back to his village with his wife and bride. meanwhile the couple get into a crowded passenger train along with other newly wed couples.
All the brides are mostly wearing the same colour outfits with their heads covered with their sarees. The groom dozes off and gets up when he arrives at his station. In haste, he gets along with the wrong bride.
Meanwhile his actual bride is left on the train with the other groom. Finally the couple reached the village and his family gets shocked when they discover their son has brought someone else.
When asked about her identity, the bride tells them a wrong name Pushpa and didn’t tell them where she belongs. However, on the other hand the actual bride looks for her husband
She approaches the station master for help, but he unable to help her since he didn’t know anything about her husband Deepak and his village. The bride also refuses to go back home and didn’t want to embarras her family.
The bride then decides to stay at the station thinking her husband Deepak might come to pick her up. She is also helped by a local tea vendor Manju Mai who runs a te stall at the station.
