Plot

“Let’s Go Karaoke!” tells a charming and offbeat story that blends high school life with the unexpected world of organized crime. At the heart of the film is Satomi Oka, a mild-mannered and responsible high school student who also serves as the dedicated leader of his school’s choir club. His quiet routine takes an absurd turn when he finds himself approached by an unlikely figure—Kyoji Narita, a gruff yet earnest mid-level yakuza member with a rather peculiar request: help him become a better singer.

Initially baffled and wary, Oka tries to avoid involvement, unsure how to react to the intimidating stranger who claims to need his vocal guidance. However, Narita’s determination—and the subtle pressure of his yakuza background—soon wear down Oka’s resistance. He agrees to help, and what follows is an unusual mentorship built on trust, fear, and a growing sense of respect between two very different individuals.

Narita’s motivation is more serious than it first appears. He’s preparing for an annual karaoke contest within his criminal organization, where the consequences of failure are far from lighthearted. The loser must endure the shame of receiving an embarrassing tattoo, a punishment Narita is desperate to avoid. With this weight hanging over him, Narita pins all his hopes on Oka’s ability to transform him into a karaoke star.

As rehearsals begin, the story unfolds into a warm, humorous, and at times touching narrative about unlikely friendships, personal transformation, and finding common ground in the most unexpected places.
