New Delhi: With the success of season 1, ‘Maharani’ is set to make a comeback with season 2 of the show. Created by Subhash Kapoor, the series premiered on the OTT platform Sony Liv on 28 May 2021. The show became one of the most loved and most watched web shows in India.
The web series is based on the political scenario of Bihar in the 1990s. The show follows Rani Bharti, played by Huma Qureshi, who is an illiterate house-making woman. She is also the wife of Bihar’s Chief Minister Bheema, played by Sohum Shah, who later announces Rani as his successor for the post of CM.
Apart from Huma Qureshi and Sohum Shah in the lead, the series stars Neeraj Kashyap, Pramod Pathak, Amit Sial, Kani Kasturi and some other known faces of Indian OTT. The series was directed by Karan Sharma, who was also a part of the directorial team of the popular Sony Liv series Avrodh. The cinematography is done by Anup Singh, who has been part of films like Badla, October and Pink, as an associate cinematographer and camera operator.
Sohum Shah and Huma Qureshi were present at the party where they were celebrating 2 years of Sony Liv in June 2022. The second season of the show was announced at the event. Sohum Shah also shared pictures and videos with co-star Huma Qureshi.
This year, along with Maharani Season 2, Sohum Shah will also be seen in ‘Dahaad’. It stars Sonakshi Sinha, Gulshan Devaiah, Vijay Varma and Sohum Shah.
