Marked OTT Release: A gripping new South African drama, Marked, is ready to make its much-anticipated digital debut.

Headlined by the talented and acclaimed actress Lerato Mvelase, this emotionally charged series dives deep into themes of identity, trauma, and societal expectations.

Marked is all set to premiere on Netflix starting July 31st, 2025.

Plot

Driven by a mother’s fierce love and unshakable desperation, Babalwa, a former police officer and devout woman of faith, finds herself standing at a moral crossroads. Her daughter’s life hangs in the balance, urgently in need of a surgery that costs more than she could ever afford through honest means. With no one left to turn to and time running out, Babalwa is forced to confront her worst fears—and her deepest convictions.

Haunted by her past in law enforcement and the principles she once swore to uphold, Babalwa makes a devastating choice: to seek help from a figure she once would have condemned — a ruthless underworld player with a dangerous reputation and a godless philosophy. This “unholy savior” offers her the means to carry out one final job: a high-stakes, highly orchestrated heist that promises to deliver the money she so desperately needs… but at a price.

As Babalwa prepares to risk everything — her soul, her freedom, and the fragile relationship with her ailing daughter — the violent and morally complex underworld pulls her in deeper.

Each step toward the heist challenges not only her sense of justice but the faith she once believed was unshakable.

What begins as a mother’s attempt to save her child quickly spirals into a test of her own humanity, forcing Babalwa to wrestle with the terrifying question: how far would you go to save the one you love — and can you still live with yourself afterward?

The show blends family drama, personal transformation, and social critique into a haunting yet hopeful exploration of healing. It’s not just a series — it’s a mirror to the hidden battles many face behind closed doors.
