Plot

Set in the vibrant backdrop of 1990s Los Angeles, Mid90s follows the coming-of-age journey of 13-year-old Stevie as he struggles to find his place in a world full of chaos and uncertainty. Living in a turbulent home environment, Stevie often feels disconnected from his family, particularly his emotionally distant mother and his volatile older brother. These tensions at home leave Stevie yearning for a sense of belonging and escape.

His summer takes an unexpected turn when he stumbles upon a local skate shop, where he meets a group of skaters who quickly become his new circle of friends. These older, more experienced skaters introduce Stevie to a world filled with freedom, adrenaline, and a camaraderie that he desperately craves. Despite their differences and occasional clashes, the group becomes a surrogate family for Stevie, offering him both guidance and mischief as he navigates the ups and downs of adolescence.

As Stevie spends more time with his new friends, he learns about their own struggles, forming deep bonds that help him cope with the challenges at home. The skateboarding culture becomes a symbol of his escape from the pressures of growing up, but it also leads him down a path of self-discovery, as he grapples with the realities of friendship, loyalty, and the complexities of growing up in a fractured world. Throughout this transformative summer, Stevie begins to understand the value of true connection, both with his friends and within himself.
