Plot
While traveling on the overnight Heart of Britain sleeper train, Joe, an off-duty police officer, notices something deeply unsettling — someone appears to be trying to take control of the train remotely. Sensing the gravity of the situation and realizing it’s beyond the scope of ordinary technical issues, he urgently reaches out to Abby, a skilled operative working with the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre.
As they begin to investigate, it quickly becomes clear that the danger is far more extensive than they initially feared. The entire UK rail network is under coordinated cyberattack, threatening to plunge the nation into chaos. With the train speeding through the night and lives hanging in the balance, Joe and Abby must work together — communicating from different ends of the crisis — to uncover who is behind the attack, what their motives are, and most critically, how to stop them. Time is running out, and unless they can safely evacuate everyone aboard the train before control is completely lost, a catastrophic disaster is inevitable.
Joe Cole plays one of the central roles, portraying a man caught in the eye of the storm. His character’s motives are as unclear as the threat itself, keeping both the audience and the authorities guessing. A talented ensemble cast, including Alexandra Roach (Killing Eve), David Threlfall (Shameless), and Ruth Bradley (Humans), joins him and brings depth and intensity to the already tightly woven narrative.
With its unique blend of claustrophobic tension, real-time storytelling, and a compelling mystery, Nightsleeper offers something rare in modern television. The train’s confined setting and ticking clock format only amplify the suspense, promising an adrenaline-fueled ride from start to finish.
