Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Devdas’ turns 20 today, netizens applaud on Twitter

New Delhi: Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s third directorial venture ‘Devdas’ turns 20 today. Calling ‘Devdas’ Bhansali’s magnum opus would not be wrong. The movie ruled the Indian cinema and is still remembered for fine performances by the lead cast, the soundtracks and the grand experience offered by Bhansali.

The film revolves around the life of Devdas Mukherjee and his quest for love. After his wealthy family prohibits him from marrying the woman he is in love with, the life of Devdas spirals further out of control as he takes up alcohol and a life of vice to numb the pain. The film was based on the novel with the same title, written by Saratchandra Chatterjee. The novel has been adapted into a film in 1955 and was also adapted with a modern take by Anurag Kashyap in form of ‘Dev D’

The lead cast of the film included Shah Rukh Khan as Devdas, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as Parvati/Paro and Madhuri Dixit as Chandramukhi. The film had one of the most amazing supporting casts which included the names like Jackie Shroff, Kirron Kher, Smita Jaykar and Manoj Joshi.

As the film completes its 20 years today, fans are flooding Twitter with their appreciation for the movie.

A Shah Rukh Khan fan shared an interesting trivia about the star.

Even Marvel star Tom Hiddleston, known for playing Loki, during the interview mentioned the experience of watching Devdas.

’20  years of Devdas’ is trending as people are pouring in their love for the film.

A Twitter user compared the acting of Dilip Kumar and Shah Rukh Khan, both playing the character of Devdas.

Singer Zayn Malik also shared an incident about how he made Gigi Handid watch ‘Devdas’.

The film got a nomination for the BAFTA awards. Also, the film won five National Film Awards, in form of the Golden Lotus Award, Best Playback Singer to Shreya Ghoshal, Best Art Direction by Nitin Chandrakant Desai, Best Choreography for Saroj Khan and the Best Costume Designer award.

The film is streaming on the OTT platform of Eros Now.
