New Delhi: Shark Tank India is full of “Doglapan” according to this LinkedIn user, who claimed that except for Boat’s founder Aman Gupta, none of the other Sharks are running profitable businesses. Quiet the contrary, these Sharks are neck-deep in losses.
In a now-viral LinkedIn post, Marketer and Entrepreneur Ankit Uttam claimed that Indian Shark never sat right with him. He made a comparison between the Indian Shark Tank and US Shark Tank. The Linkedin user claimed that while American sharks are making noteworthy profits in their respective businesses, unlike Indian Sharks who are running on side investments and otherwise drowning in losses.

- He started with Vineeta Singh’s Suger cosmetics stating that her venture incurred losses of 75 crores in the year 2022.
- Last year’s Judge Ghazal Alagh who is co-founder of Mama Earth gained a profit of 14.44 crore in the year 2022 but she was mudding in losses of over 1500 crores from the last 2 years.
- Ashneer Grover has already been cast out from Bharat Pe after the company incurred losses of over 2900 crores in the year 2021.
- Anupam Mittal’s Shadi.com has no public data of now but his other ventures like makaan.com and Mauj Mobile flopped badly.
- Peyush Bansal’s Lenkart also faced losses of 102.3 crores last year.
- And lastly, he compared Namita Thapar to Ananya Pandey, a Nepo Baby, because she works as a CEO in her father’s company and hasn’t founded anything on her own.
Many Netizens came in quick to defend the Sharks.
One user said that people ridiculing Namita Thapar for inheriting her Father’s business is a prime example of casual sexism because no one will ever say the same about TATA, Mahindra, and Ambani.

Another said that there have been times when US sharks also incurred losses so it’s just a matter of time.

One Twitter user said that some people can only comment. As long as Sharks are able to invest and fund small businesses and give adequate PR to the venture, they are doing their job.

It’s an entertainment show, raising public awareness and interest in entrepreneurship. Businesses will have better luck approaching local banks if they want some scale, real VCs if they want faster scale. If they appear on Shark Tank they get PR. I think they understand the deal.
