Plot
After a serious incident involving drinking and driving, Gulshan—a once-respected basketball coach whose life has unraveled due to alcoholism and bitterness—is handed a court-mandated community service sentence. Instead of jail time, he is ordered to contribute to society in a very specific way: by coaching a team of neurodivergent adults preparing for a special-needs basketball league.
Initially, Gulshan approaches the assignment with disdain and reluctance. His pride wounded and his career in ruins, he views the task as a punishment, not an opportunity. He has little patience and even less faith in the team he’s been assigned to. The players, each with their own unique personalities, challenges, and strengths, don’t fit into the mold of what he once considered “real athletes.” Frustrated and disconnected, Gulshan resists forming any genuine connection with them.
But as the days go by, the team’s unfiltered honesty, resilience, and unwavering enthusiasm begin to chip away at his defenses. The players might lack technical finesse, but they possess something far more powerful—joy, determination, and an authentic love for the game. Gulshan, despite himself, begins to engage. He starts learning how to communicate in new ways, adapting his coaching style, and slowly rebuilding a sense of purpose.
More importantly, the coach who believed he had nothing in common with his players begins to see parts of himself reflected in them—the desire to be understood, the battle to be taken seriously, and the will to persevere despite adversity. As he invests in their growth, they help him confront his own regrets and emotional wounds.
By the time the tournament nears, Gulshan is no longer just fulfilling a court sentence—he’s become a true mentor. But more than that, he’s undergone a transformation of his own.
