Soumitra Chatterjee passes away: President Kovind, PM Modi, others offer condolences

New Delhi: Legendary Bengali actor Soumitra Chatterjee breathed his last after an over-a-month-long battle with multiple ailments at the age of 85.

He had tested coronavirus positive on October 6, and was admitted to a Kolkata hospital where he breathed his last.

Chatterjee played the key roles in 14 movies that Satyajit Ray made between 1959 & 1990.

Condolences Pour In

President Ram Nath Kovind on Sunday condoled the demise of legendary actor Soumitra Chatterjee who breathed his last at Belle Vue Hospital in Kolkata.

In a tweet, President Kovind said Chatterjee will be remembered for the ‘Apu’ trilogy and other memorable performances in Satyajit Ray’s masterpieces. “With the passing of Soumitra Chatterjee, Indian cinema has lost one of its legends. He will be specially remembered for the ‘Apu’ trilogy and other memorable performances in Satyajit Ray’s masterpieces. He made immense contribution to the craft of acting,” he said.

PM Modi condoled the demise of legendary actor Soumitra Chatterjee.
