The Abandoned OTT release date: Here is when and where to watch this nerve-wrecking murder mystery

New Delhi: There is a multitude of films and television series that are being released by Netflix on New Year’s Eve. Many of these films and shows revolve around criminal drama thrillers and add aspects of suspense. This is where the enigmatic tale of The Abandoned comes into play.

In the realm of criminal investigation, a shocking incident brings up unexpected encounters, exposes hidden social ties, and suggests a malicious demise. The Abandoned is a film by Taiwanese director Tseng Ying-ting that delves into a familiar genre while including elements of crime-solving and introspection.

Streaming service Netflix is set to distribute the film on December 31.

Plot

A young Thai woman’s corpse washes up on the strand just as police officer Wu Jie is preparing to end her own life. What seemed to be a terrible accident was clearly a murder—a particularly horrific one—proven by the presence of a severed finger and an absent heart.

Wu Jie gets ready, puts her emotions to rest, and teams up with her rookie coworker to investigate a pattern of disturbing hints and questionable fragments of evidence as the number of women reported missing continues to rise. Constantly hanging in the air is the fear that the murderer may strike again, adding a cruel, relentless drip to the inquiry.

When and Where to Watch

This murder mystery will finally get its premiere on Sunday, December 31st, New Year’s Eve, on Netflix.

Additional Details

The best actors are part of the all-star cast. A female police officer – Wu Jie, played by Janine Chun-Ning Chang, is distraught as she seeks to uncover the truth behind a psycho killer’s killing spree.

The central suspect in the murder cases, Lin You Sheng—a psychopath and severely unstable individual—is played by Ethan Juan. Among the other supporting roles are Bruce Chen, Brando Huang, Simon Hsueh, Yu An Shun, and others.

This year’s International Film Festival Rotterdam’s Harbour programme saw the Dutch Debut of The Abandoned. This is the Taiwanese filmmaker’s debut feature film, and it follows the success of his 2017 TV movie “The Last Verse,” which took home four Golden Bell Awards: Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Editing, and Best Art and Design.
