The Color Purple OTT Release Date: After witnessing decent success & public acclaim during its theatrical run, Blitz Bazawule period drama is finally arriving to try its luck on the digital screens.
Following its grand premiere in London (November 30th, 2023) and the United States (25 December 2023), the movie, starring Danielle Brooks and Taraji P. Henson, is ready to hit Jio Cinema on August 8th, 2024, allowing the platform’s subscribers to access it hassle-free sitting comfortably in their homes.
Furthermore, reports suggest that the makers of The Color Purple are also planning to roll it out on a rental basis on platforms including Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, and Google Play movies in the coming days.
Plot
Based on Alice Walker’s novel of the same name, The Color Purple unfolds in Africa, following the story of two sisters (Nettie and Celine) who are living with their toxic father Alfonso in his house post their mother’s untimely demise.
The siblings’ lives are nowhere near easy as their abusive dad not only offers them daily mental torture but also sexually molests Celine ossasianlly.
As time passes by, Celie gets impregnated by Alfonso multiple times before eventually being forced into a marriage with a guy named Mister. Soon after her wedding, the abusive man takes another drastic step by throwing Nettie out of his house.
Several years down the lane, the sisters reunite and Nettie learns that Celie has left her husband mister. However, the duo receives the real shock of their life when they discover that Alfonso is not even their biological father. What happens next? And how these two make a comeback in their lives is the remaining story of the musical drama.
