New Delhi: Amid the resistance & opposition to controversial film ‘The Kerala Story’, Sudipto Sen’s directorial is all set for its release in international theaters, in not just one but across 37 countries.

Adah Sharma, the lead star of Kerala Story movie told media persons that the movie is releasing in 37 countries on May 12.

She recently took to Twitter to share the development with cinebuffs and also thanked them for liking & extending support to the team.

” This weekend the 12th #TheKeralaStory releases internationally in 37 countries (or more) #adahsharma,” the actor wrote in the post.

Domestically, the movie has been a mega success at the Box office, garnering more than Rs 80 crores within 7 days of its release. As the movie gears up for international debut during the upcoming weekend, this will give another big impetus to movie’s earnings & popularity.

The Kerala Story, directed by filmmaker Sudipto Sen & producer Vipul Amritlal Shah, portrays the story of young & gullible Hindu women of Kerala, who are lured & then forced to undergo conversion to Islam and how they eventually land up in the clutches of Syria-based terrorist outfit ISIS.

The film’s release witnessed loud protests from many people, who called it propaganda film but also blamed it for spreading hatred & sowing seeds of polarisation in the country. Many claimed that the movie had the backing of saffron party as the latter was trying to influence upcoming state elections on religious lines and the film was a mere tool for it.

The divided discourse on the movie is evident from the fact that the movie got banned & removed from theatres in two states West Bengal & Tamil Nadu respectively while it was made tax-free by two state govts – Uttar Pradesh & Madhya Pradesh.
