Plot
The Wrong Track is a Norwegian dramedy directed by Hallvar Witzø, blending heartfelt comedy with an underdog sports story. The film follows Emilie, a free-spirited yet struggling single mother who has hit rock bottom. Her chaotic life is filled with bad decisions, financial troubles, and a general lack of direction.
Facing eviction and losing custody of her child, she turns to her estranged brother, Gjermund, for help.
Gjermund is a disciplined and no-nonsense man. He is also an avid cross-country skier who believes in the power of structure and endurance. In an attempt to set Emilie on the right path, he makes an outrageous proposal: she must train for and compete in one of Norway’s most grueling ski marathons.
Despite her initial reluctance—given that she has never skied in her life—Emilie reluctantly agrees, seeing it as her last chance to prove to herself, her daughter, and society that she is capable of commitment and perseverance. Along the way, she meets a quirky team of misfits who help her navigate the world of endurance sports.
As training intensifies, Emilie faces both physical and emotional challenges, forcing her to confront her past mistakes and self-doubt. But with Gjermund’s tough love, the unexpected support of new friends, and her own growing determination, she begins to transform—both on and off the snowy tracks.
