New Delhi: Actor and model Poonam Pandey is likely to face legal action after the actress spread false news of her death from Cervical cancer. The internet was flooded with quick reactions after the news of her death went viral on social media. The actress shared the news of her death from cervical cancer which made headlines and received massive reaction in the internet.
The actor and model later revealed that the news of her death was fake and she only did this to generate awareness about cervical cancer among people. Her move was criticized by netizens including many celebrities across social media. She was slammed by people for faking the news of her death, many people calling this as the worst way of generating awareness.

Maharashtra MLA demands police action
An independent MLA of the Maharashtra Legislative council has also come forward and demanded police action against the actor cum model Poonam Pandey. He said that a police case must be registered against her so that people who fake their own death to gain publicity shall be taught a lesson and punished. He also added that the actor pulled a prank on cancer survivors rather than creating awareness. The All India Cine Workers association also slammed the actor and model for her intention. The also issued a statement which reads, “We request your goodself to please file an FIR against both Poonam Pandey and her manager for spreading fake news merely for their PR publicity. Strict action against them is necessary so that such types of fake news will not be circulated by anyone. Such a cheap publicity is not at all accepted in our Indian Film Industry which has high emotional values for all,”

Legal implications of spreading Fake News
Section 54 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 says: “If any person circulates any fake news or warning as to disaster, or regarding its severity or magnitude, which leads to panic among the public, then such person shall be punished with one year of imprisonment or with fine.”
