New Delhi: Tsuma, Shougakusei ni Naru, known better by its English title, ‘If my Wife Becomes an Elementary School Student’ is an anime with a tragic plot background, which it weaves around carefully into a story with the use of bits of the genres of comedy and romance to keep viewers hooked and unable to unhook themselves from the series.
This anime is a severely emotional examination of the feelings of loss and tragedy, and the way we, as humans and people with overwhelming emotions and feelings, adapt to the feeling that comes with loss, heartbreak, and unpredictably losing a loved one.
Originally published as a one-shot manga in Houbunsha’s seinen manga magazine, in April 2018, it was serialized in the same magazine from July 2018 to December 2022. The series’s eye-catching and emotional set plot earned itself a television series in 2022.
In the year 2024 this fall season, the anime is finally getting its adaptation and is set to hit streaming platforms in October this year.

Plot
An untimely death and an unfortunate car accident lead Keisuke Nijima to a dead end, losing his beloved wife Takai Nijima in a tragic accident that went unpredicted, how it would feel for an honest loving, yet overly dependent family-loving man like himself? Going through such a loss, Keisuke completely falls shut to the world, a hollow shell of what he once used to be.
Wallowing in his despair and pity, Keisuke is unable to pay any attention or minuscule of his time to his now adult daughter Mai. Time spent between them diminished until it ended, and the bond between father and daughter now was but a fading memory.
Everything turns around, for the better or worse, when an elementary school student comes knocking at Keisuke’s door, claiming to be the so called reincarnation of his now beloved dead wife. Wrecked with grief and despair, the man dismisses her claims, only to be taken aback when she recalls all the little facts and details only his wife would know. In this twist of fate, his late wife, in the body of a elementary school child helps him put his and his daughter’s life back on track.
