New Delhi: YouTube singer Farmani Naaz, who had once participated in the ‘Indian Idol’ few years ago is back in the headlines for being criticised by a Deoband-based Muslim cleric over her rendition of ‘Har Har Shambhu’, a song praising the Hindu deity Shiva.
Who is Farmani Naaz?
Farmani Naaz, hails from Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh. She became popular after participating in the 12th season of Indian Idol.
She earns her living from her singing career. Her husband had left her following the birth of their son.
She is quite popular on YouTube, she has over 3.84 million subscribers.
When was the track uploaded?
The devotional track titled, ‘Har Har Shambhu’ was uploaded by Farmani on her YouTube channel during the month of Shravan.
She received appreciation for the song, while there were a section of people who slammed her for allegedly hurting the sentiments of Muslims. Cleric Mufti Asad Qasmi said, “singing or dancing is haram in Islam.”
She said, “I am an artist. I have a qawwali channel on Youtube as well as one for bhakti geet. I sing all types of songs.”
After receiving criticism, she requested people to stop criticising her.
Meanwhile, Farmani’s mother Fatima said that BJP leader Sanjeev Balyan had praised her daughter and helped arrange treatment for her grandchild.
