Back as CBI chief, Nageshwar Rao reverses all transfer orders by Alok Verma
New Delhi: A day after the ouster of CBI Director Alok Verma by the selection committee, additional director Nageshwar Rao took charge of the investigative agency on Friday.
The interim CBI chief M Nageshwar Rao has reverted all transfer decisions taken by his ousted predecessor Alok Verma.
Following Home Ministry’s order, Nageshwar Rao is back at the helm of premiere agency. He was also in-charge of the CBI for 77 days when Verma and his deputy Rakesh Asthana were on forced leave.
Alok Verma moved to Fire Services
Alok Verma was shunted out from CBI to the Fire Services Department, almost 36 hours after his reinstatement as the CBI chief by the Supreme Court.
Verma had undone all the transfers done by Nageshwar Rao. He had also appointed a new investigation officer to probe the case against Special Director Rakesh Asthana.
A high-powered committee comprising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Justice A K Sikri and leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge had transferred Verma out of the CBI in a split verdict Thursday.
