UP: 18 killed, 17 injured as bus turns turtle in Mainpuri

Lucknow: At least 18 people have been killed and 17 injured as a double-decker Volvo bus turned turtle in Mainpuri district of Uttar Pradesh. Those injured have been admitted to district hospital.

bus overturns in MainpuriThe bus overturned after hitting a divider in Tirathpur village, almost 25 km from the district headquarters on the Mainpuri-Etawah road, at around 5.30 am, Mainpuri Additional Superintendent of Police Om Prakash Singh told media persons. High speed was believed to be the cause of the accident.

Mostly daily wagers in double-decker bus

The bus, carrying 60-70 persons was coming from Jaipur in Rajasthan and heading towards Farrukhabad. Those travelling in the bus were mostly labourers, returning to their native villages in Uttar Pradesh from Rajasthan.

CM Yogi announces Rs 2 lakh

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced Rs 2 lakh each to the next of the kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured.
