Congress President Rahul Gandhi has said that the party fought a very good campaign, stood together, raised fundamental issues and laid down a vision for the development of Karnataka.

Addressing a press conference in Bengaluru today, Gandhi said, manifesto released by Congress is voice of the people.

“We made certain commitments and we delivered on those commitments and now we have prepared a manifesto that is truly the voice of the people here,” he added.

The 47-year-old Congress said, “In contrast, the built its manifesto inside closed doors in three-four days. They copied from ours.

“So, there is a lack of seriousness among them about what they want to deliver… That I think is a huge difference.”

He countered BJP by saying that their campaign only focussed on targeting and making personal attacks on him and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

“I am very confident that the Congress party is going to win the election,” Gandhi added.

My mother is more Indian than many Indians

The Congress leader also dismissed prime minister Narendra Modi indirectly over his mother’s (Sonia Gandhi) Italian origins

“My mother is Italian. She has lived a large part of her life in India. She is more Indian than many people I see,” he said.

He took on Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allegedly making baseless allegations, distracting on issues and for spreading hatred and anger.

“Modi has anger inside… he has anger for everybody, not just me …and sees a threat in me,” Gandhi said.

Modi decimated Indian foreign policy

He also charged that Modi has decimated Indian foreign policy. Gandhi said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foreign policy decisions were dangerous for this country, particularly in the wake of the presence of Chinese troops in Pakistan.

“Let me tell you, in my view… China is a competitive power, China is also a rising power. We are in an environment where we have to manage our foreign policy with extreme care. Fundamental blunders are being made, fundamental blunders,” Gandhi told reporters.

Citing a video showing Chinese troops marching during the Pakistan Day military parade, Gandhi asked the Modi government if they knew “what does that tell you”.

“I see a complete change in the position of Russia with regard to India. I see the Russians supplying Pakistan with weapons which they have never done before,” he said.

“So there is a disaster that has been created in the foreign policy. And it is dangerous for this country.”
