Dehradun: Seven people have reportedly been killed and two injured in Dehradun in rain-related incidents.
Four people lost their lives after a house collapse in Simadwar, while three died due to drowning in a river. Major rivers and rivulets have swollen following rain.
“Due to heavy rains, drains have overflowed at several places. IRS, NDRF and SDRF teams have been informed. The police are out in the field with their teams. We have evacuated the people who were trapped, and the bodies have been sent for post-mortem. Two more bodies have been recovered in different parts of the city, their kins have been informed. One more person was reported dead, the search for the body is on,” said SSP Nivedita Kukreti.
As many as 41 interior roads connecting villages have been blocked due to landslides.
MeT predicts very heavy rains in 24 hours
The MeT department has predicted heavy to very heavy rain in some parts of the state in the next 24 hours. Schools in some districts have been closed for today.
Dehradun is on alert and people have been asked to take precautions, especially people staying near the river and the drains.
All district magistrates have been asked to remain vigilant and keep disaster response mechanism ready to deal with emergency situations.
