Newly-elected Karnataka MLA Siddu Nyamgouda dies in road accident
Bengaluru: Newly-elected Karnataka MLA Siddu Nyamgouda died in a road accident in Bagalkote district early Monday morning, reports said.
The Congress MLA from Jamkhandi was on his way from Goa to his home district Bagalkot when the car in which he was traveling in hit a truck near Tulasigeri.
The MLA was taken to hospital, but declared brought dead.
Nyamagouda had suffered severe injuries and died instantly, district superintendent of police Vamshi Kumar told a news agency.
The 70-year-old lawmaker was in New Delhi and had returned to Goa by flight before he proceeded to his constituency by car.
The 69-year-old had beaten BJP’s Shrikant Kulkarni and Sadashiv Kalal of the JD(S). Nyamagouda defeated his nearest BJP rival Shrikanth Subbarao Kulkarni by over 2,500 votes.
He is survived by wife, two sons and three daughters.
Nyamagouda was the Union minister in the P V Narasimha Rao ministry in 1990-91.
