Sonia Gandhi unveils M Karunanidhi’s statue in Chennai
New Delhi: UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Sunday unveiled former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi’s statue, at DMK headquarters in Chennai.
The statue was unveiled in presence of DMK chief MK Stalin and a host of Opposition parties leaders.
The event has been dubbed as an anti-BJP alliance in yet another show of unity ahead of the Lok Sabha elections 2019. Congress President Rahul Gandhi also attended the DMK event.
Rahul Gandhi said, “While Karunanidhi Ji defended institutions of this country, today we’ve a govt that is attacking voice, culture, institutions of Tamil Nadu and our country. In memory of Karunanidhi Ji, all voices in India are going to get together and defeat BJP in the next election.”
Andhra Pradesh CM and TDP boss Chandrababu Naidu also attended the event. Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan and Puducherry CM V Narayanswamy are heavyweights were also in attendance.
Rajinikanth, who had announced his entry into politics but yet to float a party, also attended the mega event.
