Subramanian Swamy seeks arrest of Sidhu, investigation by NIA for meeting Gopal Chawla
New Delhi: BJP senior leader and Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy has demanded arrest of Congress MLA Navjot Singh Sidhu for meeting pro-Khalistani leader Gopal Singh Chawla, a close aide of Lashker-e-Taiba chief Hafiz Saeed.
Navjot Singh Sidhu has been heavily criticized for his visit to Pakistan for the foundation laying ceremony of the Kartarpur corridor and for praising Pak Prime Minister Imran Khan at the event. During the event, he was snapped meeting with Gopal Singh Chawla.
Reacting to the harsh criticism, Sidhu denied any friendship or acquaintance with Chawla. He said, “There were probably 5-10,000 pictures taken of and with me there (in Pakistan), I don’t know who is Gopal Chawla.”
However, BJP is not letting off the pressure on Sidhu. Coming down hard on the cricketer turned politician, Swamy said Sidhu should be investigated by NIA and arrested.
“Then you say that I’ve nothing to do with Khalistan & condemn it. But he should be investigated by NIA (National Investigation Agency) & arrested under National Security Act,” Swamy told news agency ANI.
