VIDEO: Punjab minister flips coin to decide on posting of lecturers

Chandigarh: In a weird case of decision making, the Punjab Education Minister resorted to tossing of coin to pick up the right candidate among the two nominees, for the post of a lecturer in polytechnic insititue.

The incident was caught on camera and aired by television news channels.

The video showing Congress leader and Punjab Technical Education minister Charanjit Singh Channi using a coin went viral on social media.

In the video the minister is seen tossing a coin in his office, while the lecturers whose fate hinged on the outcome of the toss, looked on.

As per reports, the two lecturers, one from Nabha and another from Patiala, wanted to be posted to a government polytechnic institute at Patiala. In order to resolve the issue, Punjab Technical Education Minister Charanjit Singh Channi decided to toss a coin.

The incident took place on Monday when 37 newly recruited mechanical lecturers were called by the minister to give them their posting orders. They were recruited via the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) examination.

Punjab govt spokesman defended Channi’s move, saying that both the candidates were vying for the same post. He said, “One of them said his scores were better than the other candidate, while the other one said he was more experienced.

The BJP was quick to react and condemn the minister. GVL Narasimha Rao said that Punjab CM Amarinder Singh must take action against the minister.
