2 JeM terror modules busted in Kashmir, 10 arrested

New Delhi: Jammu and Kashmir Police today busted two terror modules of proscribed terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) in south Kashmir. Police also arrested 10 of its associates in Tral area of Awantipora and Khrew area of Pampore.

According to news agency ANI, 4 people were arrested from Tral. They have been identified as Younis Nabi Naik-resident of Pinglish, Fayaz Ahmad Wani-resident of Reshipora, Riyaz Ahmad Ganaie-resident of Nigeenpora and Bilal Ahmad Rather-resident of Hafoo Nigeenpora.

In the second module, six people were nabbed from Khrew area. They have been identified as JA Parray-resident of Bethan Khrew, YB Wani-resident of Babapora Khrew, TY Lone-resident of Khrew, RA Bhat-resident of Sharshali Khrew, JA Khanday-resident of Khrew and Imran Nazir-resident Mandakpaul Naimsaab Khrew.

Mobile internet has been suspended in the entire Kashmir valley, a police official said. He, however, said broadband services on BSNL landlines are working.

Police said probe has revealed their complicity in terror attacks in Tral.

Shopian gunfight ends as militants escape

Militants managed to escape after a heavy exchange of fire with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district in the morning hours of Monday.

Police sources said the security forces had surrounded Sangran village in Shopian district in the morning following information that two to three militants were hiding there.

“As the security forces closed in, the militants fired at the security forces, triggering an encounter,” a police officer said, adding “the militants finally escaped.”

Protests broke out near the site of the gunfight immediately after the gun battle erupted.
