New Delhi: October 2 holds a special place in Indian history. Two of its greatest national leaders were born on 2nd October. However, many don’t know that also India’s second Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri was born on the same date in 1904.

Shastri Ji had Chevrolet Impala car for his official use. Once his son used the car for a drive. When Shastri learned about it he asked his driver to check the distance the car was used for personal used and later deposited the money in the government account.
After joining the Kashi Vidyapeeth and after getting a degree in Philosophy, he received the epithet ‘Shastri’
Lal Bahadur Shastri went to jail as early as when he was 17-years-old. Jailed for his participation in non-cooperation movement.
He was the first person to be posthumously awarded Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award.
Another little-known fact about Lal Bahadur Shastri is that it was him who ordered using jets of water instead of lathis to disperse the crowd; during his charge as a minister of the Police Department.
