‘Abki Baar Trump Sarkar’, rang loud and clear,” PM Modi refers to Trump’s viral video from 2016

The slogan, of course, belonged to PM Modi, but here he was simply referring to Trump’s candidacy back in 2016, when, in an ad aimed at the Indian-American population, used the same words.

New Delhi:Congress Rajya Sabha MP Anand Sharma was shortly exposed after he launched a stinging attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the lavish ‘Howdy, Modi!’ event in the United States on Sunday, reminding him that he is in the country as the Prime Minister of India and not to campaign for US President Donald Trump.

A large round of applause broke out at the Howdy, Modi event in Houston, Texas when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “Abki Baar, Trump Sarkar.”

The slogan, of course, belonged to PM Modi, but here he was simply referring to Trump’s candidacy back in 2016, when, in an ad aimed at the Indian-American population, used the same words.

Abki Baar Trump Sarkar’- Trump’s Move to woo Indian-American Hindu community in 2016

A video of 2016, US Presidential candidate Donald Trump was seen saying ‘Abki Baar Trump Sarkar’ has gone viral on social media. The move was seen as Trump’s bid to woo the Indian-American Hindu community, the tagline was a direct lift from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 2014 Lok Sabha election campaign, which was powered to a large extent by the slogan ‘Abki Baar Modi Sarkar’.

In the run-up to the US Presidential election on November 4, Trump has been extensively participating in events organised by the Indian community in the US.

Howdy Modi, not  a foreign policy focused event

To make clear, the Howdy Modi wasn’t a foreign policy focused event. The Howdy Modi was organised by the non-profit Texas India Forum, the event, with the tagline ‘Shared Dreams, Bright Futures’, will shine a light on the tremendous contribution of Indo-Americans in the United States and the strong and lasting partnership between the US and India.

While addressing the crowd both leaders nodded to the connections between the two countries, the bulk of their speeches was focused on their own individual achievements and their electoral popularity.

So it would be hard to see Modi’s role and his invocation of the “Ab ki baar, Trump sarkar”
