Ahead of 2024 polls, big boost for AAP; blow for NCP, TMC and CPI as they lose national party status

New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday revoked the national party status of three leading parties of the country.

They include Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamalool Congress (TMC), Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) & Communist party of India (CPI).

In a statement, the poll panel said that it was withdrawing national party status of 3 recognized Parties- AITC, CPI and NCP.

While the poll panel’s announcement came as welcome surprise for Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The growing footprints of party is being acknowledged by all factions and with this endorsement from the poll panel, this is a big shot in its arm.

“AAP to be recognized as a National Party as it fulfilled the condition of Para 6B(iii) i.e. recognition as a state party in four states, based on poll performance i.e –Delhi, Goa, Punjab and, the latest in Gujarat,” said EC in a press note.

Aam Aadmi Party was elated by the news and congratulated its supporters. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal also expressed his gratitude towards the public and congratulated his supporters.
