“The act fulfills the long-standing demand of providing refuge to persecuted religious minorities from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan,” more than 1,000 academicians have written in their letter.

They have also congratulated the Parliament and Modi government for standing up for the religious persecuted minorities and upholding the ethos of India.

“We believe that CAA is in perfect sync with the secular constitution of India as it does not prevent any person of any religion from any country, seeking Indian citizenship. It does not change the criteria of citizenship in any way. It also does not in any way prevent Ahmadis, Hazaras, Baloch or any other denominations and ethnicities, from these same three countries, seeking citizenship through regular processes,” reads the statement.

Expressing concern over the violent atmosphere in the country, they also made an appeal to citizens to not fall into the trap of propaganda and communalism.

“An atmosphere of fear and paranoia is being created in the country through deliberate obfuscation and fear-mongering leading to violence in several parts of the country. We appeal to every section of society to exercise restraint and refuse to fall into the trap of propaganda, communalism and anarchism,” the statement read.

Not just academia but law students, practitioners and Institutions like AIIMS, IIMS and IITs have also voiced their opinion and suggested how the CAA will provide succour to religious minorities, without hindering nation’s interests.
