Banks to Remain closed for 21 Days in October, Full list of holidays here

New Delhi: October, which marks the onset of series of festivals, is near the corner. In the festive month, businesses take a little back seat as people are busy either in observing rituals or doing more socialising than before.

In the upcoming month, many private and public banks all the country India will remain closed as many holidays are falling in the 30-day period. As per the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) list of official banks holidays, the month will have a total of 21 official holidays. The 21 days combine the second and forth Saturdays as well as the Sundays, adding to the 14 bank holidays ascribed by RBI.

The list of holidays by RBI falls into the category of state-wise celebration, religious holidays, and festival celebrations. The categories are — the Negotiable Instruments Act, Holiday, Real Time Gross Settlement Holiday, and Banks’ Closing of Accounts.

October 1 marks the holiday under the Banks’ Closing of Accounts classification, which is issued only by banks in Gangtok. October 2 is Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti, when banks across the country will remain closed. Another mega holiday is October 15, which is Dusshera/Durga Puja/Dasara (Vijaya Dashmi), where all the private and government banks will remain close except banks in Imphal and Shimla.

• October 7 – Mera Chaoren Houba of Lainingthou Sanamahi (Imphal)
• October 9 – 2nd Saturday
• October 10 – Sunday
• October 12 – Durga Puja (Maha Saptami) / (Agartala, Kolkata)
• October 13 – Durga Puja (Maha Ashtami) – North & Eastern India
• October 14 – Durga Puja/Dussehra (Maha Navami)/Ayutha Pooja — North & Eastern India
• October 15 – Durga Puja/Dasara/Dusshera (Vijaya Dashmi) / (All Banks except those in Imphal and Shimla)
• October 16 – Durga Puja (Dasain) / (Gangtok)
• October 17 – Sunday
• October 18 – Kati Bihu (Guwahati)
• October 19 – Id-E-Milad/Eid-e-Miladunnabi/Milad-i-Sherif
• October 20 – Maharishi Valmiki’s Birthday/Lakshmi Puja/Id-E-Milad (Agartala, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Kolkata, Shimla)
• October 22 – Friday following Eid-i-Milad-ul-Nabi (Jammu, Srinagar)
• October 23 – 4th Saturday
• October 24 – Sunday
• October 26 – Accession Day (Jammu, Srinagar)
• October 31 – Sunday
