However, the Aligarh police reached the spot and rescued the Bengal police who were locked up by unruly crowd.
“In the course of the investigation, the Bengal Police Station reached the Gandhipark area, there was a rift with the team of the local people – the local people accused the team of misbehavior – the situation was pacified by the officials immediately on the spot, no arrest was made by the West Bengal Police”, Aligarh police said.

What was the case against BJP leader?
The police raid on BJP leader was because of his controversial remarks, in which he announced bounty of Rs 11 lakh for someone who brings the head of WB CM Mamata Banerjee in 2017.
The four police officers of West Bengal’s CID department including SI Suvasish Dutt and constable Alamgir had arrived with arrest warrant and attachment issued by the court against BJYM leader, Yogesh Varshney regarding his association with the 2017 case.
How Bengal cops were held & kept captive for hours
Initially, the officers arrived at Gandhipark police station. Then nearly at 7:30 PM, the police arrived at Yogesh’s house, accompanied by Gandhipark outpost in-charge Sandeep Kumar and a constable. Later the policemen from WB entered the leader’s house in civil uniform to enquire about the latter.
Yogesh was not in the house. While searching the house, the policemen got into an argument with the family members. Consequently, the information reached Yogesh, who allegedly sent BJP workers to stop the policemen from the enquiry. Later the officers were locked and beaten and their identification cards and arrest warrant were seized.
