Anushka reportedly left her house on October 31 with two pairs of clothes and Rs 2,500 cash and never returned. Her parents stated that she was attracted to shamanism, through online reading about the ancient practice.

Anushka gained attention over shamanism after she passed class 12. Speaking to the media, her parents said that their daughter was influenced by spiritual life coaches and psychedelic educators, and expressed her wish to practice shamanism.

While speaking to NDTV, Anushka’s father Abhishek said that somebody might have influenced her to leave home. “She is a minor. She may not be in a position to take a judgmental decision on her own. She told me that she wanted to follow shamanism,” said Abhishek.

Anushka was a “regular teenage” before certain changes were noticed in her behaviour in September, Abhishek added. She became reclusive and seemed to avoid everyone.

“I took her to a counsellor. The behavioural changes we saw was that she stopped talking to us. She was keeping to herself and restricted herself from household activities,” he said.

Police are looking at the CCTV footage from different locations. However, from the place Anushka became traceless had no CCTVs.

What is Shamanism?

Shamanism is an ancient healing practice that is considered a way to connect with nature and all of creation. According to another description, in shamanism, specialists establish and maintain relations with concerned spirits in an altered state of mind.

In historical ethnographics, shamans include men, women, transgender individuals of every age from middle school onwards. The term was coined by anthropologists to refer to the spiritual and ceremonial leaders among indigenous cultures worldwide.

Shamanism is believed to have originated among hunting-and-gathering cultures, which continued to stay within some herding and farming societies after the origins of agriculture.
