New Delhi: Tension gripped in Majhuwa village under Baisi police station of Purnia district of Bihar when a Mahadalit colony was engulfed with raging conflagration on the night of May 19 (Wednesday). A violent mob brutally attacked and set ablaze more than a dozen houses in Mahadalit Basti. It is being reported that a former village chowkidar was allegedly beaten to death

As per reports, a pregnant lady named Laxmi Devi was also mercilessly assaulted by the mob. She has sustained critical injuries on her head but managed to flee the spot.

Victims have not filed an FIR but the local police visited the village ave detained two persons identified as Mohammad Sakir and Mohammad Ibrahim.

The deceased has been identified as Mewa Lal Roy. His sons Sukhdev and Fakira said, “Hundreds of people from three to four nearby villages attacked us at around 11 am on Wednesday when we were sleeping. Later, they set our houses on fire.”

“The injured were later rushed to Baisi primary health centre (PHC),” the police said.

VHP demands action on Purnia jihadis, justice for Mahadalits

As the news of the incident spread, VHP members visited the spot to take stock of the situation.

In its statement, the Hindu outfit alleged inaction by the local administration and police. Drawing attention to how such incidents of atrocities towards Dalits in the hands of Muslims are becoming more and more common, VHP’s Union General Secretary Milind Parande wrote that Muslims are carrying out such atrocities with the tactile support of local administration.

Milind Parande said that the immeasurable havoc wrecked on the Maha-Dalits by the Muslim community on May 19 Wednesday midnight in the Manjhwa village in Khapra Panchayat of Bayasi subdivision of Purnia district, was a replication of their Bengal experiment of brutal violent attacks committed this month, and it has once again dared to test the patience of the Hindu society! The apathy of the local police, administration and government on these heinous incidents of attacks, beatings, looting, violence and arson is also very worrying. There is a suspicion in the minds of the people that this is happening due to pulls and pressures from the local public representatives. He has also demanded that the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), National Commission for Women (NCW), National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) and National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) take suo motu cognizance of this horrific episode and initiate appropriate action in the matter directly.
