New Delhi: After a ruckus at the Delhi Civic Centre, AAP and BJP have taken the battle to social media. The parties have up their social media game to target each other over the Delhi MCD Standing Committee elections. The row began when BJP councillors claimed that three members from each party won the elections, while newly elected Mayor Shelly Oberoi believed a vote was invalid.

BJP and AAP had a poster battle on social media. BJP shared a poster of Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi, and AAP leaders Atishi and Durgesh Pathak, showing them as villains and accusing them of scuffling and dictatorship.

Replying to the tweet, AAP also shared a poster saying ‘Ballot Chor Machaye Shor’, which featured BJP Delhi’s big faces like Gautam Gambhir and Manoj Tiwari.

On February 24, a clash erupted between BJP and AAP councillors where AAP Councillor Ashok Kumar Maanu collapsed. Parties launched verbal attacks on each other while talking to the press. BJP councillors alleged that the Mayor tried to declare the votes invalid.

On February 25, Delhi High Court stayed Mayor Shelly Oberoi’s notice for the re-election of the members of the Standing Committee. As reported by Live Law, Justice Gaurang Kanth observed that the Mayor is conducting re-elections without declaring the results of the elections conducted on February 24, which is a violation of Regulation 51 of New Delhi Municipal Council (Procedure and Conduct of Business) Regulations, 1997.

Mayor Shelly Oberoi told ANI that Delhi Municipal Corporation Act states that the presiding officer has the right to accept or reject any vote but before this could happen, the experts appointed by Election Commission drafted the result. She added that she found a vote invalid.
