New Delhi: Delhi witnessed its highest single-day spike of 1,877 coronavirus cases on Thursday, with 65 succumbing to the disease in last 24 hours.
This is the highest number of new cases to emerge in a single day in the city. On June 3 the city had recorded 1,513 infections.
The total number of coronavirus cases in the national capital stands at 34,687, a Delhi government health bulletin said. The death toll has gone up to 1,085.
The bulletin said that the metropolis has 20,871 active cases while 12,731 patients are “discharged/cured/migrated”.
Days back, Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia admitted that there would be around one lakh COVID-19 cases in the national capital by end of June and the number would escalate to over 5.5 lakh by July 31.

Earlier in the day, Delhi’s civic body, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) released figures pertaining to the cremation of patients who lost their lives to the novel coronavirus. As per the MCD’s figures, as many as 2,098 corpses of Covid-19 patients have been cremated by its various divisions.
“From March till June 10, in all three municipal corporations of Delhi, there have been around 2,098 COVID-19 death cases for which funerals have been held. These all were coronavirus positive cases. We have given separate records of around 200 suspected cases,” Prakash told ANI.
