New Delhi: Former Congress President and MP from Wayanad Rahul Gandhi is spending nights amid his Bharat Jodo Yatra initiative in one of the 60 mobile containers mounted on trucks with essential needs.

The 52-year-old lawmaker has a private air-conditioned converted container to himself, while others will be sharing the rest of the containers.

The senior leaders of the grand old party are reportedly staying in two-bedded containers, while other workers are adjusting in a six or even a 12-bedded one. All the containers have attached toilets, though only a few have an AC installed in them.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh while talking to the media said that the converted containers will be stationed at temporary campsites of nearly 2 acres during the night, and will be moved as per plan in the day. He further said that there is no facility for food or meetings inside the containers, and neither they have any TV sets.

“There are 119 Bharat Yatris, including Rahul Gandhi, who will walk the entire distance of 3,570 km, from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, along with some Atithi Yatris, will be staying in the containers”, Ramesh told.

“We are staying in the containers since yesterday. There are 60 containers in which about 230 people stay. Every day the containers will move to a new site mounted on trucks. Some are one-bed, some two-bed, some four-bed and some 12-bed containers”, he added.

He also informed that Gandhi is also staying in a private container since Wednesday and the yatris covered a distance of 23 km on Thursday with just one break in between.

According to Ramesh, the containers are mounted on trucks of Tata company and have arrived from Mumbai.
