New Delhi: Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh joined the BJP in presence of senior BJP leaders today in Delhi. Ahead of his joining, Amarinder met with the BJP’s National president JP Nadda in the capital. He was inducted into the party in the presence of the Union Ministers Narendra Singh Tomar, Kiren Rijiju, BJP leader Sunil Jakhar and BJP Punjab chief Ashwani Sharma.

Notably, Singh quit as the Punjab Chief Minister in September last year and was replaced by Charanjit Singh Channi. Soon after quitting Congress, he formed a new party namely, the Punjab Lok Congress (PLC).

On the joining of Capt Amarinder Singh, Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju said that the right-thinking people of the country should be united. Singh is a nationalist who never kept politics before national security.
”We think that right-thinking people of the country should be united. A sensitive state like Punjab should be handled carefully. During his tenure as CM, he never kept politics before national security,” said Kiren Rijiju.

Speaking about his joining, Amarinder Singh said that he is grateful to join a party that is looking after the interests of the country.
”Punjab is a border state, and I have seen our relations with Pakistan deteriorating…Drones are coming into our territory now to create complete chaos in Punjab. China is also not far from us. It’s our duty to protect our state and the country,” said the former Punjab CM.
